When I received the vac the canister was wet and the vac smelled bad that I had to move it to the garage and open the canister to dry. When that didn't clear the smell (it smelled like something died in the garage). Luckily I kept my old one and was able to change the sponge filter that reeked. I switched the filters and solved the smell problem. I like the vac but would suggest not hosing the canister and cleaning the sponge filter with soap and water and let it dry.
