I am not sure when this happened (during transit from vendor to me or before that). It doesn't affect the use of the parts. Additionally, the seal holding the hydraulic fluid inside the caliper manage to detach itself during transit. These Ekar shifters/parts are all pristine new in box when I ship them out. The box should have zero signs of cosmetic wear. The box should have also been factory sealed direct from Campy.
