Arrived quickly. So-so picture quality. No subtitles. British B&W talkie from 1935 about Caribbean penal colony. A thinly-veiled attack on the French Devil's Island, though the authorities in the film are pre-Franco Spanish: Spain had its own brutal, tropical penal colony off Africa. Conrad Veidt is excellent as the leader of the prisoners' revolt, and went on to better things. The sets are pretty good. The other actors are only middling.
