I was very careful to mark up which side goes where. Apparently, there's a danger of destroying stuff if inserted the wrong way. Also had some problems with my chassis and using the last PCIe slot (#7, GPU in #1), as the shell of the connector prevented it from going all the way in so I had to shift to slot #6. Both design flaws of the connector and the chassis for being to big (Trapezoid) and narrow.
