I was able to lubricate my treadmill belt without loosening the belt. However, I removed one of the side rails on my treadmill in order to be able to slip the foam applicator parallel to the belt. The top of the side rails on my treadmill are a bit higher than the belt surface, which makes the applicator go in under the belt at an angle. Better than having to loosen the belt!
