The take-up roller had somehow decayed into a bunch of sticky goo, something I've never seen before and I have a lot of tapes. I didn't check it before putting it in my 8-track player and it required a major cleaning afterwards. When I complained the seller refunded it and I later opened the tape and dug out the mess and cleaned it and cannibalized a roller from another screwed up tape.
