This light was wired with very tiny wires that aren’t even long enough to reach the canopy and are just taped together. My electrician said this wire shouldn’t be used in lights and is only intended for low amperage applications. I have to get the whole thing rewired.

The light wires were too short because the thick wire could not be inserted inside the pipe and not long enough to reach the canopy as it had to be connected to the main cable. Your electrician is fooling you to make money out of you, and this cable takes up to 2000 watts of load. All you had to do was connect with a cable. And if you don't believe then check the load of 2000 watts with these cables.
