The packaging was not new looking, however the pictures and description described that. The tape blade itself appeared new, although I think I know why somebody opened it then changed their mind. The end where the tape blade connects to the spring is different looking from the original. Despite that I was able to connect the new tape blade to the old spring and retracted it back up just fine. My only other complaint was that I could've gotten a whole new tape measure for less than this cost.
