It was very clearly not cleaned at all before sale, let alone properly descaled etc... Brings into question whether the machine was properly serviced at all and is likely in far worse internal condition than indicated. Currently after a thorough cleaning of the external parts I am waiting on proper descaling and cleaning solution to ensure the internals are properly clean, before I will even be able to assess the working state.
