They did not smell of smoke, when shipped, and were shipped from a “no smoking allowed” home. Perhaps it is the leather that you are noticing. They are vintage preowned suede leather, but did not smell of cigarettes, or any other strange things when shipped. You could try suede cleaner for the outside uppers, and shoe sanitizer for the insides of the boots. That should do the trick.
