About this product
Product Information
Sentinel Returns is a game that very nearly defies description. It doesn't fall within the normal parameters of most puzzle or action games and gameplay is decidedly different than most. The game is about power and takes place in a bizarre "king of the hill" environment. Containing over 650 levels, it gets progressively more difficult as you ascend throughout the levels. The player begins at the lowest level and manipulates a fluctuating energy pool by creating, absorbing or destroying objects. Your mission is to get higher and higher in the environment by teleporting into robot hosts that you create and place on stacks of boulders (usually up to three). Once you've moved to a new host, you'll have to absorb the energy from your last location by destroying the old boulders and hosts.

Gameplay continues in this fashion until you attain higher ground than that held by the Sentinel. Once you are on the same plane or higher than the Sentinel, you can destroy it. Depending on how much energy you absorb within the level during your ascendance, you'll then advance anywhere from one to four levels. To gain one level requires 49% or less energy absorption, two levels (50%-69%), three levels (70%-89%) and four levels (90%-100%). Less than 0% means "Game Over", but with persistent use of the save game function, you can continue at the beginning of whatever level you've attained.

While you are striving for ascendancy in one of the five types of abstract environments (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and the devilish Void), the Sentinel rotates and emits an invisible scan. Once within the scan, your energy drains quickly. At the higher levels of the game, the Sentinel clones itself and the environments become bleaker and more barren. The game features several twists that can affect the action. An example is the Sentinel controlled security agents known as Sentries who are on the look out for you. You have the ability to jump to hyper-space which allows your robot host to relocate within the landscape when you cannot progress any higher. There is also a Meany that is used to send opponents into less desirable landscape regions.

Sentinel Returns accommodates up to four players with customizable landscape geography and speed of enemy scan rates. The game features a professional soundtrack composed by horror film director and music composer John Carpenter. There is also a bonus option to randomly generate over 10,000 levels.
