I am not sure of the age but I believe it is likely very old.There are cut out handles on each end for easy moving. The wire and the metal mesh are high gauge which makes the basket very sturdy and weighty. The basket had generalized rust color(but its not rusty), which adds greatly to its appeal. The basket is structurally sound.I am not positive of the intended use but I believe it was likely a gathering basket on the farm, for eggs or vegetables possibly potatoes.It would be a great basket to organize things in. I can see it being used in the center of a farmhouse table or large kitchen island.The fact that this basket is so imperfect is what makes it so perfect.Or in the garage or craft room. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.Size - 24.5"L x 18.25"W x 9"H”
