Everything You Should Know About Wide Angle Camera Lenses

Whether you are hiking in the mountains or sailing on the ocean, the right lens can help you capture and record these moments. They are also compatible with a wide range of different brands, including Fujifilm, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Sony.

What types of cameras do Zeiss lenses work with?

Wide angle Zeiss lenses work with these camera types:

  • Digital SLR: This is a type of digital device that is designed to accommodate interchangeable lenses and is outfitted with numerous automatic and manual settings. These devices primarily use digital media for the capturing and recording of photos and videos, such as memory cards and internal hard drives.
  • Rangefinder: This camera uses a small rangefinder to measure the distance from the lens of the device to the object that the lens focuses on.
  • Medium format: This is a device that uses photographic film that measures at less than 4x5 inches. This film usually comes in a width of 120 millimeters. These devices are outfitted with manual settings as well.
  • SLR: The SLR makes use of photographic film and comes equipped with an electronic viewfinder. This model comes with manual settings, such as manual focus and manual compensation settings.
  • Mirrorless: This device comes without a mirror system and is outfitted with a digital sensor. These systems are compatible with interchangeable lenses as well.
How does a wide-angle lens work?

This is a type of lens that comes with a small focal length and is designed to capture images at a wide angle or wide field of view. When a scene is captured with this type of lens, you will be able to photograph more of the scene in a single frame. With a full-frame device, all lenses with focal lengths below 50 millimeters are considered to be wide angle. With APS-C cameras, a lens with a focal length below 35 millimeters is considered to be a wide-angle lens.

What are the different focus types available with these lenses?

Here are some of the focus types available with wide lenses:

  • Auto: This is a type of focus system that can change the focal length of the lens automatically before you take each picture. This system uses a small motor in combination with the sensor to identify the focal point and change the settings accordingly.
  • Manual: This system requires you to change the settings by hand, which can typically be done with a ring located towards the front or base of the lens.
  • Auto/manual: Some devices are compatible with both autofocus and manual focus modes, allowing you to switch between the two depending on your preference. Lenses that can be used with both focus settings come with a small switch on the side of the lens that can be changed between the two focus modes at any time.
