Nike Air More Uptempo Black Sneaker

Blue Ribbon Sports was founded by Bill Bowerman, former track and field coach at the University of Oregon, and his former student, Phil Knight. After success selling another brand’s sneakers, they decided to create their own, as Nike. These very first Nikes would be handmade in their own homes. The Nike Air Max technology was first developed in 1978 and released in the Nike Tailwind running shoe in 1979. The Nike Air More Uptempo is a descendant of that first Nike Air Max shoe.

When was the Nike Air More Uptempo released?

The Nike Air More Uptempo was released in 1996 in Olympic-themed colors. These basketball shoes increased in popularity due to basketball legend, Scotty Pippen’s affinity for them on the courts. Pippen was a seven-time MVP and won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. He was also a part of the 1996 Olympic basketball team dubbed the “Dream Team.” Pippen’s influence on the shoe led Nike to design Scotty Pippen sneakers that were black and gold with his Olympic jersey number 8 embroidered on the logo.

What style features are on the Nike Air More Uptempo?

These Nike Air More Uptempo basketball sneakers feature the word “air” along the sides of the shoes. This might be their most defining feature and the reason some call them the “air logo shoes.” There are quite a few different series of Uptempo, and the series determines the words on the shoes’ sides. A few different series include the “Max,” “Chicago,” “Atlanta,” and the “Suptempo.” As a true throwback, the letters are big and puffy in similar style to 1990s graffiti and pop art. The Air Max cushion system is visible in the sole of the sneaker. This technology uses pressurized air in polyurethane sack to help attenuate shock for the wearer. These athletic shoes use a ghillie lacing system and have elastic straps across the saddle of the shoe to aid in securing a snug fit.
