Other Motorcycle Accessories for Yamaha FZ1

The FZ1 motorcycle was first manufactured by Yamaha in 2001 as a street bike. These bikes are designed for extreme sports and performance purposes. A wide range of accessories are available to make your Yamaha model more comfortable and efficient.

What kind of accessories are available for the Yamaha FZ1?

A few of the many accessories available for this bike include fender-eliminator kits, crash protectors, hand levers, and passenger bars.

How do you install a motorcycle fender-eliminator kit?

Fender eliminators help to streamline the motorcycle by removing a fender on the rear end of the bike. Here are the steps necessary for installing these kits on your vehicle.

  • Remove the seats and any rear bodywork. Disconnect the license-plate-light wire, marker-light wires, and brake-light wires, which are located under the seat.
  • Disassemble the rear of the vehicle. Remove your marker lights by unbolting the three Allen bolts on each side. Unbolt the two Allen bolts that hold your stock marker-light mounts in place. Remove the rear fender from the exhaust. Remove the taillight and the taillight bracket.
  • Begin assembling the fender eliminator. Attach the brake light and marker lights to the fender eliminator. Run the wires through the main pan, using heat-shrink over your wires to secure them from any heat. Mount the light and license plate to the license pan. Secure the license pan and taillight for the FZ1 to the main pan using the stock screws. Bolt the fender eliminator to the FZ1. Make sure that the wires are routed under the left rear bodywork and secured in place with wire clips to keep them away from the vehicles exhaust system.
  • Then you can reassemble everything. Remount the rear bodywork, and secure the seat and side covers back onto the Yamaha FZ1. Mount the license plate.
How are hand levers installed?

For safety, always follow strict instructions for replacement parts, including hand levers. Here are the steps to follow when repairing or replacing these accessories.

  • Park your Yamaha FZ1 on a flat, level surface. For further security, use a rear stand to hold your bike in place. Using a screwdriver, unfasten the screw that attaches your lever to the perch, and remove the lever. Make sure that your switch is not damaged. Set the screw aside for installation.
  • Fit the dowel included with your new lever into the lever. Place the switch prong into the dowel. Position the screw and nut into place and secure them tightly using the torque specs found in your owners manual for the FZ1.
  • Using a wrench and socket, loosen the 10mm nut that is located on the underside of your perch to make it possible to remove your clutch cable. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the cable from the lever. Work carefully to prevent any marring or fraying of the cable. Remove the brass bushing on your stock lever and set it aside.
  • Reinstall the cable into your replacement lever. Reposition the old bushing into your pivot point and secure with the screw and nut. Adjust the tension of the clutch cable in accordance with factory specs.
