Mini DV Recorders to Store Your Memories on DV Tapes

Mini DV HD camcorders are portable and compact recorders you can take with you anywhere. After returning home from a vacation or a local sporting event, you can watch the movies and reminisce with family members and friends. JVC offers the video camera camcorder in a variety of models with useful features.

What Features Should You Consider?

  • Zoom Control: The zoom lens on the GR-DA30US and other camcorders offer an optical zoom ratio of 30x and a maximum digital ratio of 800x.
  • Compact Design: All designs are small, but some are considered "microPocket" sized and ultra-slim. The flatter and thinner frames have the same helpful features found on top tier cameras made by the company.
  • Digital Stills: Camcorders have a digital still output to download still-life photos you take using the recorder. You can use the built-in digital special effects and exposure modes to enhance them. The GR-DVL505U model has a dual cam feature to store stills separately rather than use a tape.

What Types of Models Does the Company Make?

  • CCD: Charge-coupled device (CCD) camcorders include sensors that capture light and move it to where the camera converts the light to digital signals. For example, some models have a 1.33 megapixel CCD that produces crisp images and provides 540 lines of resolution.
  • LCD: High-resolution viewfinder screens range in size from 2.5 to 3 inches and reduce glare and reflections. The color monitor allows you to view footage in advance and view images in picture frame mode.
  • Other Models: Camcorders have slots for removable MMC and SD cards, remote controls, and lens that let in twice the amount of light while reducing noise at the same time. Video cameras with Night Live and built-in Auto Light compensate for low-light conditions.

How Do You Watch Your Movies and Store Footage?

Video jacks enable you to playback recordings on your television or through a home theater system. Most models have HD HDMI audiovisual outputs that provide better images. You may want to consider keeping a backup of your DV (digital video) format tapes on an external hard drive. On average, five minutes of video footage in this format takes up 1 GB of memory space on your computer or other storage devices. Likewise, short video clips can be stored on a flash drive or transferred to your PC through a built-in USB port.
