Seller Notes: “3 volumes. All three appear to be mixed states, with publication by Little, Brown on full title and ... “3 volumes. All three appear to be mixed states, with publication by Little, Brown on full title and on spine, but Roberts Brothers on copyright (volume 3 also has Roberts Brothers on full title and Little, Brown mentioned only on spine). The first series uses sheets from the 17th edition/printing, the second series from the 10th, and third series the 2nd. Externally all three are about very good: some wear and fading to spine, but boards are clean. Edges are slightly foxed with gild top edge on all three. Internally, there is a bookplate on the front pastedown of volumes 1 & 3. No other markings of any sort. Binding on all three are very strong (unusual for these, which have a reputation for coming apart). Only major issue is foxing to page faces themselves of 1st volume: the first pages up to the preface are rather heavily foxed (as in title page in photo), while there is foxing at about half to a third that level throughout rest of book. Volumes 2 & 3 are completely lacking in this.”
